There is no backlight on the control panel on this model. I finally gave up trying to get LG to correct what I consider a major problem in useability. Instead I went through several itterations of creating a replica of the control panel button labels to get them lined up on the control panel and have now produced a clear plastic stick-on sheet with white lettering that fits exactly over the existing hard-to-see lettering. I am soon going to make them available on eBay and MarketPlace for the lowest price I can, somewhere in the $25 range, depending on costs to produce them.
