• The cause is usually is a metal scouring pad, sand paper or other non-approved cooktop cleaning agent. However, pushing pots, pans (especially ceramic with a rough granular bottom) across the surface can cause scratches. I know because my wife used SOS on the old range cooktop to remove burned on sugary sauce; she now uses an approved glass cooktop cleansing agent.
