- Answer It is compatible with Xfinity, and yes you will need a modem for this to work. It’s OK to rent your modem from your cable company, but their routers are horrible. So you want to buy your own, this one is a very good one. Modem/router combos can be good if you spend a lot of money on them, otherwise it’s best to buy them separately.

- Answer This is a router that runs the WiFi for your home.. It connects to your provider's modem. If the internet service is out, then then no router will work. You don't have internet. If you want a backup for the internet, then buy a hotspot and run it through your cellular service.

- Answer If your modem is old, as many of them are, it won't work well with any router. Buying a new modem will make a world of difference. Everything will run better.

- Answer Hi, dj, Yes, you can. By assigning a different name and password for both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band. But note that Wireless-N and Wireless-A devices are capable of connecting to the 5 GHz network and these devices have the ability to auto-connect to the strongest network (2.4 and 5 GHz band).

QuestionHow easy is this to set up, and can I use my cell phone to do it?

- Answer It's very easy to set up if you follow the instructions. There is a learning curve to these routers if this is your first one. You cannot use your cell phone to set it up. However, your cell phone can use the wi-fi signal from this so you are not using any data while at home. It's as fast or faster than 4G LTE. The support at Linksys is very very good.
