If you have Xfinity, their basic router and modem combo they supply is garbage compared to a router like this. I would recommend this router with a Surfboard 6183. Xfinity also charges money every month as "rent" for the devices that you will never actually own. With your own router and modem if you ever switch cable companies you can bring these with you. Make sure the Modem is compatible for Xfinity. What you need to tell them is that it's a Arris/Moto Surfboard 6183. It has 16 downstream channels and 4 upstream channels. This should be more than enough as most companies recommend 8 downstream and 4 upstream so this device does double the downstream. Break free from the rent!
