1. yes you can use either router as an access port. I set it up for someone's warehouse with two access points. 2. yes you can make the password anything you want, even spaces.

The mobile app if i remember doesnt let you get that deep into configuration. As far as supporting special characters in the wpa2 paraphrase.......not sure.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I too needed to replace a Netgear wi/fi router. The WRT1900AC will do what you want. Matter of fact continue to use your existing modem as a bridge and let the 1900 be your router, it can also be used as an access point. It is well worth the cost!
