“Does the keyboard act as a cover for the front of the ipad or do you just connect it to the ipad magnetically when you want to use it for typing. Do the two pieces together work as a regular protective cover for front back and sides of your device”

Yes it is protected on all sides. The keyboard acts as a cover for the front of the iPad. You can also disconnect the keyboard and switch it around and snap it to the back..see last photo to see what I mean.

The keyboard acts as a cover for the front. The two pieces connect together to form a shell around your device.

The keyboard is a cover and does protect the screen but can also be removed. The iPad is totally protected with this product.

The keyboard acts as a cover and provide front back and side protection while closed. With the keyboard detached it protects everything except the screen but it does have a raised edge so you can lay the iPad screen down on a table or similar and it wont get scratched
