Yes it does record audio and audio can trigger recordings. I personally turned that feature off via the phone app because the amount of notifications I was getting.

It is disabled by default due to many area laws not allowing non-concessional audio recording of conversations, considered wire-tapping. It does not trigger recording or motion detection alarms by audio. However, the system is default 24/7 continuous record and will record audio the entire time. The audio it does pick up for me isn't the best due to being 13ft off the ground, however, has helped identify times of loud noises like fireworks and tire screeching. If in a more confined space it may pick up more detail.
