Any non-activated (read: Find My was not activated on anyone's account on the device) Apple product comes with 60 days of Apple Care for free. But if you don't purchase Apple Care during that 60 days, once its past the 60 days, you will no longer be able to get it for that device. I highly recommend Apple Care since, while they are neutering it considerably, it is still cheaper to pay $15/month and a one time deductible of what ever they charge (usually less than $300 for screen repairs and larger repair jobs) than it is to pay outright what they charge for repairs without Apple Care. Screen repair for MacBook Air with Apple Care is about $300. Without Apple Care: $800. You decide what's best for you!
