Yes, if using the HEOS app or hooked up to Zone 2. Different or same sources can be selected with both systems. After figuring out HEOS quirks it couldn't be easier if using an iPhone and/or iPad for area and source selection.

As long as your movie room is 5.1, you can use the extra 2 channels to power the other room (zone 2). You can also use HEOS for the other room allowing you to stream music and control from the other room including volume. Zone 2 can be controlled by the remote as well. Independent volume is also a feature of zone 2.
