Never had any problems with the smell, but doesn't really get them to clean, not only that, but it leaves white residue, all over your dark clothes, mu wife has to wash items twice, NOT GOOD. I would stay away from this machine if I where you...
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.This machine (Maytag Bravos XL) does not allow enough water to get your clothes clean. I tried adding buckets of water from my sink, but the drum will not hold the water. The buckets of water I try to add immediately drain out. My clothes do not come out smelling clean, sometimes they are not fully wet even though I use the deep water wash cycle every time. I have had a maintenance person out three times (the washer is not yet a year old) and nothing is found to be wrong with it. It is performing per specs. The maintenance person showed me how to load the washer differently (putting the clothes only around the perimeter in clumps), but it is still not getting the clothes clean. There is often times white residue on the dark clothes and the clothes (especially knits and cottons) are stretched and extremely wrinkled. Maytag says it can only offer repair, not replacement. I don't think there is anything to repair -- it is just bad engineering. I have read other reviews where people cite the same problems. I have the matching dryer too -- it works fine!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I've used front load HE washing machines for over 10 years and the only smell that occurs is when the door starts to get moldy. (That's typical for front load) I have to take the clothes out as soon as it's done washing or the clothes will start to smell. Otherwise, I love the HE machines. I'm in the process of buying a top load HE washing machine because of the mold issue the front load machines get. I've used less detergent, left the door open to dry out and it still gets moldy. Hopefully, the technology has improved the front load washing machines by now but I'm getting a top load. Anyway, the HE washing machines do clean the clothes and they don't smell either. Definitely, don't overload the washing machine.

Any other time I have washed my clothes and put it in the dryer afterwards no issues with smells. But like another review said I do leave my washer lid open just to air it out from time to time. No stains and no residue. We use Gain soap.

I am still looking for one that would use more water since I really believe that is the reason for the clothes not being as clean as I would like them to be. Some people don't mind it, but for others it is a big disappointment. I spend much more on all the best detergents by increasing the amount I use trying to compensate and still does not clean the clothes to my taste.

This is to air it out and every few months I would get a warning on the washer to use AFFRESH in the washer you must be asking about a front loader washing machine. I have no problem with smell from this Maytag MVWB835 which is a top loader.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I too have this same washer and mine is a top loader…I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT for this very reason!! It’s truly awful! My clothes never smell clean and often come out dry in areas even with deep water wash..I’ve tried everything..so gross
