When I activated my subscription, I was given the option to enable auto-renew so I don't think it is mandatory. As a bonus, I was offered one extra month free if I did enable auto-renew and saw that it is possible to disable the auto-renew option afterwards if you don't actually want it to auto-renew. This is an easy way to gain an extra month. Don't let the auto-renew portion of the title scare you away from this product.

Don't get caught with their poor directions during the initial install of MicroSoft365.

I purchased for friends over the past year and was hit with auto renewal charges that I never authorized.

Bad practice Best Buy !!

Yes, you need to make sure you go into your account and disable the auto-renewal.
