I think it'd work great for a 13 year old... but I'd get a rugged case for it. My 13 year old enjoys using mine when I let her. This model has already been tested in a school setting - works great. Show her Microsoft OneNote (http://www.onenote.com) for class notes/work - great tool. There's a desktop application and a Windows App (a subset of features to the desktop application but still very useful). The OneNote app comes preinstalled. Weight (or lack thereof) is great and really like the size for hand holding, better than the Surface Pro 3 in this regard. Just used it to show HD .mov video files and worked great. I don't work for Microsoft or any tech company but am in a tech field.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. For what you want, it is good enough. For "Paint" - if you're talking the Paint application that is included in every version of windows, yes. There is also an art app called "Fresh Paint" that works fantastic with the stylus. So, for what you're mentioning, that's likely your best bet, this will work well.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think she would love it! I would definitely get a sturdy case for young teens though.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The question is is she wanting a laptop or a tablet. Though you can use a Surface in your lap, it's honestly a tablet first. It's a really good tablet, especially with the pen. In fact if she wants the pen for drawing or note taking then get a Surface. There's no other device that has as good a pen. Otherwise, if she'd prefer a more traditional laptop feel, maybe a convertible like the Lenovo Yoga Pad or that new HP would be better. For the record, I love mine.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I've been using for work and homework and it works wonderfully. The quad core processor speeds things along very fast. The One Drive on here is easy to use also, and transferable between other operating devices.
