“I bought this laptop a month ago and already it gets hot very quickly and runs the fan - more than my surface laptop from 2017 did in her whole years of life. Is there anything I can do to improve this?”

I bought mine a couple months ago and mine never gets hot or uses the fan, even when I’m using it on my lap with a blanket. You way want to take it back to Best Buy, see if you can get a different one, or what your options are.

The processor usage depends on the applications used in the system. When processor usage is high, the temperature also rises. Intel® Processors have built-in thermal protection. If the processor gets too hot, the built-in protection slows down (throttling) and eventually shuts down the processor.
