From appearance standpoint, they look almost identical. However, from processing standpoint, this is a much faster model. From what I read, the i5 version of this model (the mid range model) performs better than the i7 model (the high end model) of the Surface Pro 4. The new Surface Pro also doesn't have a fan, so no moving parts, no noise, and no overheating. The surface pro 4 is almost 2 years old now, while this one just came out in July.
