  • QuestionHow many channels can I get using this antenna? And is it really free once you buy it?

    Asked by Stephen.

    • Answer It is free once you buy it and IF you are in a good location to use an antenna! I would suggest that you google "how many ota channels will I get" and locate a site that allows you to put your address in for a signal scan. This will give you an idea of what channels are being broadcast in your area.

  • QuestionCompatibilityYour description says "compatible with select HDTVs". How can I tell if it will work with my TV? I have a Samsung 40" Smart TV.

    Asked by BobMcG.

    • Answer I'm not sure why it says 'select HDTVs'. Maybe because you have to have a regular coax style antenna input? Or maybe they're covering their fannies on TVs which are now 4K or UHD and their antenna is officially rated at 1080p. Since you're picking up broadcasts off the air, I wouldn't worry about the latter issue. I'm not familiar with any TV stations broadcasting in anything higher than 1080p at this time. Not to say they couldn't in the future, but you'd be used to 1080p, so even if you couldn't take advantage of it, you'd never know the difference. As to the input, just look at the back (or side) of your TV. Is there an input for a coax cable? It's round, protrudes from the TV, has threads on the outside, with a small hole in the middle. It's usually labelled "antenna". If so, you're good.

  • QuestionCan you use this for two TVs? Or do I need to buy two antennas?I have two TVs in two different rooms of my house and would like to use this TV antenna. Can one work for both? What would the setup have to be? Thanks.

    Asked by innaSF.

    • Answer I suppose you could. But this is a wired antenna, which means you'd have to buy a splitter and enough cable to run a feed to the other room. In which case, you'd probably suffer enough signal loss to significantly degrade the signal. So you'd probably want to buy a signal booster. By the time you buy the splitter and cable (not to mention the booster), you may as well just buy another antenna. Not to mention the fact that you'd have to drill holes or run a cable through your house, either of which could be unsightly.

  • QuestionWill this antenna work on a tv in the center of a home with no windows nearby.

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Antennas tend to work the best in a window. But if the signal strength is strong in your area it may work fine on an interior wall. Keep in mind that some building materials such as stucco, metal siding, metal roofing, can block your signals which is another reason window placement is ideal.

  • QuestionI have a Sony and Magnavox 36" Tv's but with the big back..they are for my summer cabin..will this antenna work on big back Tv's or only on flat screens????

    Asked by Jesse.

    • Answer If your television made before 2009 you may need to invest in a digital converter. If you’re not sure of the age of your television you can check your manual for that information. *ATSC, it means you do have a built in tuner that will allow reception of digital television channels. *NTSC means you do not have the built in tuner and you will need a digital converter. *If you’re still not sure, please call your TV manufacturer. A digital converter box connects to your existing TV and allows it to receive free over-the-air digital TV signals. A digital converter box is a one-time purchase with no monthly fees. One converter box is necessary for every TV that doesn't have a built-in digital tuner and that receives its signal over the air with an antenna. They are fairly inexpensive and can be found at electronics stores or online.

  • Questioni am getting 28 channels and right now it is placed close to window. each time the car goes by in front of my house reception shows static which goes awy when car drives away. I live in 1st floor of private house

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Unfortunately vehicles work as moving metal barriers that will disrupt signals. The signals bounce off them and away from the antenna. The only thing you can really try is getting the antenna higher so that its positioned higher than the traffic. This is a tough issue to resolve and it's all about placement.

  • QuestionHow is the antenna mounted on a wall or window?

    Asked by jack.

    • Answer The antenna comes with small velcro discs that you can stick on the antenna and the surface you want to attach it to. There are also two small holes at the top of the antenna where you could use nails or pushpins to attach it to a wall.

  • QuestionWill this antenna work in the basement?

    Asked by Wildfire.

    • Answer Basements can be tricky areas for reception. Television signals will not penetrate the ground and in most cases basement walls are concrete with steel rebar inside them for support which will block signals from reaching the antenna. If your basement has windows above ground, place the antenna in the window. If that doesn’t provide good reception, try moving the antenna higher, either by taping it to the basement ceiling near the window, or moving it up one floor and running the coaxial cable down to the basement TV. Remember to redo the channel scan every time you move the antenna. In many basement situations a roof/attic mounted antenna is a great option since it gets your antenna up and over any blockages.

  • Questionis this item Compatible with Panasonic 720p Viera 50in?I noticed 1080p along with "Selected" HD TV's

    Asked by Derek.

    • Answer Yes, it is compatible because I have the same TV! Your TV must have a digital tuner or your analog TV must be connected to a digital converter box. See here for more information: http://antennatv.tv/free/ You must also live within 30 miles of a digital transmission tower. See here for tower locations by zip code: http://antennaweb.org/Address.aspx Results are not guaranteed but mounting the antenna higher generally yields better results (eg, 2nd floor is better than 1st floor mounting). Good luck!

  • QuestionWill this Mohu indoor antenna work overseas like in the Philippines?

    Asked by Rene.

    • Answer In theory, as long as the country has UHF or VHF, the antenna should work there. However, we are not set up to take orders internationally at this time. You may be able to find a re-seller on Amazon that ships out of the U.S but if you wanted to purchase one here in the U.S. and bring it with you this is what you would need to know about your situation:The country it is being used in has at least UHF or VHF frequency. Our Leaf (non-amplified) antenna – needs to be 35 miles from UHF towers and/or 10 miles from VHF towers – but there can be no terrain interference between the transmitting tower and the location being used. You must have a TV that has a digital tuner inside and cannot be used with houses that have metal roofs, aluminum siding, stucco, fire escape, bars on windows, etc or any other metal barrier. You would have to find out how far and in what frequency the towers are transmitting from. There are other variables involved with over-the-air transmission but we do not have access your country’s broadcasting data in relation to specific locations. Another thing to keep in mind is that most international countries use 220V power outlets which a special socket. Unless the amplifier can be powered by USB from the Television’s USB port, you would also have to purchase the appropriate voltage converter.

  • QuestionI live in little falls NJ 07424 will it work in my area

    Asked by kennyd48.

    • Answer Hi, I work as a Chief Engineer at a TV station and I've had a lot of experience with the flat, leaf style antennas. They work OK if you only have UHF stations in your area. Even though the box says it could pick up VHF stations, in my experience it doesn't. You can visit antennapoint.com or antennaweb.org to see all the available transmitters in your area. VHF stations are RF or DTV channels 13 and below and it looks like there is a fair amount of VHF stations in your area. This antenna isn't going to be the best choice for you, unfortunately. The old school rabbit ears are still the best indoor antenna for receiving VHF signals. Get one with the hoop in the middle to get your UHF stations and you'll have the best shot of getting as many of the stations in your area as possible. As a side note, don't pay extra for an antenna that claims it's HD. It's nothing but marketing, there is no difference between an antenna that is marked HD and one that isn't but almost always the one marked HD costs more. Hope this helps.
