“I have a 2+ year old Motorola Droid Maxx on Verizon. If I purchase a Moto G Plus 5th generation unlocked from Best Buy can Best Buy transfer the sim card to the new phone and move the apps from the old to the new phone? Thanks, David (85719)”

No, they cannot. Verizon is CDMA and each sim card is fixed on a specific phone. You will need a new sim. Actually, I just did that with my Droid Maxx which started life on Verizon.But I ended the contract as soon as I could and went to Straighttalk with their CDMA chip. Then when I upgraded to the Moto G5, I stayed there with a new sim chip from them.
