Why dual cameras?? 12mp&5mp null

There is a front and back camera. The back camera is 12 mp, the front facing camera is 5 mp.

The 5mp camera has a different aperture (or f-stop). That means it allows a different amount of light into photos, which is useful during portrait mode.
