Unlocked phone means you can use that phone with any carrier of your choice, means you own the phone not any carrier like T-Mobile, AT&T or Verizon etc. on the other hand if you have Locked phone then you can only use that phone with that specific carrier you can not go to the other carrier unless your previous carrier unlock that phone for you normally they do that if you pay them all the dues and full amount of the phone

Try to do that with a locked device, and it will stop working, including sending and receiving phone calls. An unlocked device is also not loaded down with "bloatware", which is apps and other software specific to or otherwise provided by the carrier and that most people do not want and never make use of, but which eats up (causes the bloat in bloatware) storage space they could use for more music, photos and videos. Why would one want a locked mobile device? If one desires the very latest fancy, feature-rich device such as the newest iPhone or Galaxy, but cannot float the hefty price, a locked phone is the way to go, as it allows one to either gradually buy the unit by making payments to the service provider that the carrier includes in the monthly bill, or to lease it, then hand it back over later in exchange for the next new thing.
