A:AnswerIt's hard to know what it's made of. Just FYI the silver you see on this onthe front of the coffee maker is the only silver on it. The rest of it is made of plastic and I do mean that the cheap plastic... The carafe is made out of the thinnest freaking material you can purchase and if I was smart enough to take it back within my allocated time, which I might look and see if I still can because if I can..... it's going back. All it's going to take is one little tink on the faucet and it's going to crack open. Stainless .... I don't think anything on this coffee maker is stainless steel. Instead of spending the big time bucks on this one spending $19 on the lowest level Mr coffee coffee maker and you're going to get a better product from that.

Once the w3ater passes through heating element into the canister pot, that item remains heated via the hot plate upon which it rests until after the factory identified automatic shutoff is effected for the entire unit (after which time the entire unit and coffee contents cools down.
