I found it recommended on several gaming forums that given a choice between the Samsung SSDs currently available, to purchase a 1TB or 2TB Samsung 980 PRO PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe, especially if the current $50-$80 price difference at Best Buy between the 980 Pro and the 970 EVO Plus doesn't break your bank. The 970 EVO Plus can ONLY be used in the spare Gen 3 SSD slot, while the 980 PRO -- since it's backwards compatible with Gen3 -- can be used in either of the two SSD slots this laptop features (btw, there was a forum Q&A comment that stated that this GS76 comes stock with a Western Digital SN810 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe for those interested). I also was informed that the Samsung Pro 980 version with the attached heatsink will NOT fit in either SSD slot since it is much too thick for the space available, so only the regular sized 980 Pro will fit.
