You don't need wireless gear to use this router... BUT... If you have no wireless gear, then there is practically no point in buying this (or any other) wireless router. If you need more WIRED connections and have no wireless gear, save yourself some cash and simply buy an Ethernet "fast-switch." Netgear makes some good, inexpensive models, much lower price than a wireless router.
