I configured ours as WFI Access Point which requires it to connect to the original router via ethernet hard wire. I configured it to use the same network name (SSID) and use the same gin password and it is totally transparent to the network as any kind of separate system. When I logon to it it shows me all hardwired and wifi connected to the whole network exactly the same as when I logon to the original router. It all appears as ONE network so yes, it is a mesh network extension of the the original network.

For the price, this is a quality part of your comfort to have WiFi throughout your entire home and outside if necessary. Great purchase.
