This shouldn’t lower our connection speed. I’m guessing you meant to say making the connection speed faster. In this case both of those are true. This router is meant to cover a larger area and therefore better connection speeds and it systematically connects to the nearest and fastest servers to get the lowest ping (latency).

Assuming that before you had a lower tier router, it will ideally increase your ping by allocating more bandwidth and the best channel (5ghz) to your gaming device. However, there is no real substitution for having a wired connection. Therefore, if you are physically out of reach of your wireless connection, this device will perform just about the same as your old device.
