I just purchased this switch and was posting my review and noticed your question. I know it has been over a month since you have asked, but I'll still answer if you need to know. When connecting the modem to port 8 (uplink port) on the switch, anything you hook up to ports 1-7 will also have a connection to that modem. I don't know if that's the answer you're looking for, but that is the basic purpose of a switch.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, this is just an 8-port managed switch used to connect multiple wired devices to your network, not an access point. An access point, or wireless access point (WAP), is used to connect wireless devices to your network.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This is not a wireless device if that is what you are asking. Netgear does make a wireless/router version of this Nighthawk switch however. This device can be simply thought of as an internet splitter for wired devices. I hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Basically this increase the amount of ports you can have. Anything connected will be hard wired.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This essentially gives you 8 more Ethernet ports added to your modem.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. I have such a configuration in my home. I have a cable modem, plugged into the router, and the router has a cable to the switch, and then multiple devices connected to the switch. Works great!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. This is a switch, not an Access Point.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No this is a switch not an access point or router. You would need a router to connect to your modem and handle the DHCP duties. Then you can use this switch or an access point.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes that is why we bought it . So not everything is directly plugged into the modem, you plug it into your modem then plug everything into this
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, this can be used as an access point that is connected to the main modem.
