Yes. It's overkill. Nothing supports this yet and the range is nothing to be impressed about with the AD band. This is only worth purchasing if you want to Future Proof. Other than that, Get an AC 5300. Way better Coverage and Reliability.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. In respect of your answer explain why you think it's not overkill. I have the x8 it's a great router but the full capabilities are not being utilized!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.802.11ad is going to be used in the near future for a variety of high-bandwidth purposes (Example: VR headsets, such as Oculus, HTC Vive, and Hololens), so they can become wireless. I personally don't see this router becoming 'outdated', unless IEEE comes out with another standard for wifi in the near future. When you have dozens of wireless devices like myself (My entire home is networked with smart technology), this router is a blessing. Don't think of it as futureproofing, think of it as getting the best experience for wireless devices that the market can offer at the moment.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I can't us the 802.11 ad but it does do 802.1 ad link aggregation that I need on the physical links to my synology Nas
