• You might want to wait for the imminent release of the successor to this router coming next month (Aug 2017). The "NETGEAR AC4000 Nighthawk® X6S Tri-Band WiFi Router with MU-MIMO" (aka NETGEAR R8000P) has far more capabilities and software. This model uses three year old technology and is being liquidated to make room for the new model. That's actually a good thing if you are looking for mature firmware.. but a bad thing if you want a modern router.

• It does have auto update Firmware. However, DO NOT UPDATE firmware after January 2016. Ever firmware after January 2016 has caused the WiFi speeds to go from up to 450mbps down to 3mbps. Netgear does not seem to be concerned about this issue even though there are 1000's of post on their website about this issue.
