You do internet not necessarily cable. This router replaces the router the company issued when they hooked up your internet.

The internet access can be from your cable company, it could be DSL, it could be from your cell phone's data plan. You need an internet service provider (ISP). Once internet is brought into your home, wifi just kicks it to other devices within range.

You shouldn't need much more than that to get it up and running. You'd only need additional cables if you were attaching other hardwired network devices directly to the unit. But for WiFi only, you shouldn't need another cable.
