Hi Matt. That is a default feature that allows the cameras to conserve battery life when motion is not being detected. If you want to see live view, you can simply click the play icon to begin seeing live view. When set to motion record, that is the default. We do sell Wi-Fi IP cameras that are compatible with your recorder that do not have that feature and will display live view 24/7.
