If the power goes off the DVR stops and the system is inoperative. When the power comes back on the system should work as before. The cameras / dvr require power. You could put the cameras and the dvr into a battery backup. Depending on the camera / dvr locations that may require multiple battery backups. Depending on how long you want the backups to run for, they cost between $60 and a few hundred $$. But if the power is off for an extended period (several hours) the backups will also die. If that is your issue then you have little alternative than a backup generator.
