Yes you can add a monitor using a HDMI cord

There is a hdmi output. You will need a monitor to initiate and run the installation wizard to set passwords, choose settings, and update firmware. I hooked up the hdmi to my living room flat screen to test the unit and cameras. You can also hook up a VGA monitor to the VGA output.
