The “4E” in the name AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR also refers to the range the same way f/3.5-5.6 in that the "4" is how wide open the aperture can be when extended to 80mm. The "E" refers to the aperture system type. This one refers specifically to our newest aperture system which uses an Electromagnetic system to control the aperture blades. This aperture type may not work with some of our older Digital SLR cameras. If you would like to know more information on this aperture system please contact Nikon Customer Support.
