It can be used for video, but it might not focus fast enough due to its small aperture. A lens with an f-stop of 4 or less would be better for video. For example, the 35/1.8 or the 50/1.8 lens would be very good for video & both are relatively inexpensive.

It's a versatile lens that provides remarkably sharp photos, steady videos and improved low-light performance due to Nikon's Vibration Reduction (VR) image stabilization. This technology allows the lens to have about 4.0 stops of blur free handheld shooting so images and videos are sharply defined and vibrant. In addition this lens has Super Integrated Coating (SIC) to deliver superior color quality while reducing ghosting and lens flare and also has Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass so optical distortion becomes nearly eliminated. This compact and multipurpose lens is ideal for any growing camera bag.
