Nikon D-SLR, Nikon DSLR and Nikon SLR are one in the same; D-SLR stands for digital single-lens reflex camera. The AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR II Telephoto Zoom lens is completely compatible with the Nikon D3400 DSLR camera and will provide beautifully sharp images when used together.

DX is 1/3rd smaller than professional DSLR cameras that have 35mm sensors to mimic the old film size. DSLR cameras have a mirror in front of the sensor that re-directs the light allowing one to look through the viewfinder and through the lens. The mirror moves out of the way to take a picture causing the characteristic click. All digital cameras are either DSLRs or the typically less costly cameras without a mirror.
