• The D3100 has live view. The D3000 does not. With the D3000 or D5000 you must view video through the small view finder window where as with the D3100 you can view it on the 3in screen.

• The D3100 is a newer camera with more features. It also has a movie mode which the D3000 does not.

• D3100 comes with 1080p resolution for high-definition videos and D300 does not
