Questionwhat is the difference between the D3100 and the D3000?what i mean by what is the difference, i mean which one is better with what features? which one is better in genral?

- Answer The D3100 has live view. The D3000 does not. With the D3000 or D5000 you must view video through the small view finder window where as with the D3100 you can view it on the 3in screen.

QuestionWhat are differences between the D3100 and D5000 besides megapixals? Does one perform better than the other?Looking between the two to purchase and not sure which one is "better". I understand the megapixals is more on the D3100 and the D5000 has a swivel screen, but not sure what are the differences I should look at when choosing which to buy.

- Answer The D3100 has more movie options than the D5000, 1920 x 1080 (24p) for the D3100 vs 1,280 x 720/24 fps for the D5000. The D3100 has a 3" LCD screen vs the 2.7" screen of the D5000. The D3100 is also compatible with SDXC and SDHC memory cards, the D5000 only uses SDHC.

QuestionDoes this camera have in-editing features? Also, what are the color options when taking a picture?When I mean "in-editing", I mean is there a way to edit a picture right on the camera after you take it? If so, what is part of the "in-editing"? Also, what color options as in, is there options to take a picture in monochrome, sepia, etc...? Thank you for the help.

- Answer Yes. There is an in-camera editing program. You can quickly change the color balance (make it cooler or warmer) or change the color scheme (black and white, sepia). The in-camera editing program is very useful, and when you edit the picture, the camera saves both copies so you can decide once their on your computer which one you like better.

QuestionCan you buy auto focus lensesI am thinking about buying the D3100 but does it have an auto focus option on the camera itself or is there a lense you can buy seprately or is the only way to focus these cameras by hand?

- Answer Cameras have either auto focus motor built into the camera body itself or utilize the one built into the lens. D3100 is the latter. Thus, the lens that will work on D3100 is identified as AF-S (at least Nikkor lenses) in the model number. If it is only AF or AF G (this is old series) then it won't auto focus on D3100; you have to manually focus.

- Answer The Nikon D3100 with an EH-5a AC Adapter. I know it is somewhat impractical at sporting events. Find a cheap portable AC/12V power battery. In addition, you'll need a really fast memory card like the SanDisk Extreme® Pro™ SDHC™ UHS-1 Card (8, 16 or 32 gig). I have the 8 gig. You'll need a good zoom lens like the AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR. It has AutoFocus, Vibration Reduction and really fast motor speed. Flashes are usually not allowed at sporting events so you can skip that. That would put you just a bit over $1000 but near professional photographer's results. YMMV. When you turn pro get a hold of an AF-S NIKKOR 200mm f/2G ED VR II.

QuestionHow many images can the D3100 take in one burst at 3fps?

- Answer Basically, the D3100 will continue to take pictures at 3 frames per second until you stop pressing the shutter release. Now in reality you are limited by the battery in the camera. As the battery charge gets weaker the process slows down considerably ( 2-1.5 fps). You are also limited by you your memory card capacity. On the plus side if you buy an external flash unit like the SB-900 you can raise you frames per second to around 4 fps.

QuestionWhich of these types of cameras have the best lens for long distance?My daugher is a gymnast and often she is clear across a large venue when she is performing so a lens that can ;pull her in much closer works better for us, my camcorder(that I currently own) magnifies up to 35X which has been great for this especially when filming video, so I was wondering how far away I can take a photo on this camera or would I better off with a different camera with a longer zoom or a camera which I can change the lens out, I would of course prefer an all in one camera so I don't have to mess with changing lens and possibly missing a great shot while she's performing.

- Answer The standard lens that we got with our D3100 was the Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens. If you have the same package, a good lens for sporting events that would compliment what you already have is the Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Zoom Lens. For a human subject much beyond a shot from 50 or 60 meters away you might think about a Nikon 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S DX Nikkor Zoom Lens. Remember your Circular Polarizing filter for those indoor zoom shots. A lens hood might also be a good addition to your camera bag. Through all these lenses you can shoot HD videos on the D3100. All-in-one package for stills and video.

- Answer The D3100 has a standard Nikon F mount with AF contacts. The F mount is the same mount Nikon has used for ages. All Nikon /.Nikkor lens fit this mount. There are a few older lens that may not fit due to manual connections, but those are highly specialized and few and far between. Since you have a Pentax Lens with a Pentax K mount, the answer is No, you cannot use those lens on any Nikon camera.

- Answer Best Buy does carry the memory cards. It uses SDHC cards, easy to find almost anywhere. Get a big memory capacity!

- Answer The D3100 uses listed SD, SDHC, and SDXC memory cards. Memory cards with an SD Speed Class rating of 6 or faster are recommended for recording movies. Movie recording may stop unexpectedly when memory cards with lower Speed Class rating are used. You can find more information on Page# 177 of the User's Manual.

- Answer Yes, but it eats the batteries for external flashes like the SB-900. You might want to look at the SD-9 battery pack in that case.
