Yes the big solid pan always remains. There is another basket for air frying and veggies that will replace the grill if that's what your doing (all inside the big solid pan). There is a griddle pan that fits this model although if you have a griddle already I would recommend using what you have as the one for this is pretty small. If you are living single or w/e this may work for you though.
