Hello suehow, We are happy to assist you with your inquiry about the Ninja - Foodi™ with Tendercrisp™ 6.5 Quart Multi-Cooker. The diffuser is used to allow airflow all the way around the Cook & Crisp™ Basket. You would remove it when cleaning the Cook & Crisp™ Basket. We hope this information helps.
