The console has a cartridge slot for games but many games sell both cartridges and digital version. Depending on the game, wifi is not needed for most games. You'll have check the game before you buy. However it is safe to say a lot of single player games do not need internet. FYI, if you purchase a digital game, some games only require internet to initially download them but once saved on console, internet may not be required. Therefore once again, it depends on the game.
