No, you don't have to. During the original installation it will ask if you want to sign up, and you can tell it "no". If you change your mind later, you can sign up on the Instant Ink website.

So, you might as well go ahead and sign up for the HP Instant Ink Subscription in my opinion. It's also much cheaper than buying the INK Cartridges once I priced it out. However, it's up to you. You will have to Call HP Instant Ink to release you from their system too. Otherwise, the Inkjet will NOT print for you.
