The camera will automatically chose a shutter speed from 1/2 sec to 1/2000th sec. The shutter speed chosen depends on the amount of available light needed for proper exposure. There is no mode to manually select the shutter speed you would like to use. A shutter priority mode would be available on a D-SLR type model.
