“I’m dealing with a series 5 Samsung TV. I’ve successfully setup the the TV through the receiver and into the speakers. Yet,when I go to Netflix, the sound is only coming through the television and not the speakers? Any suggestions?”

You probably need to adjust the sound settings on the TV to tell it to output sound to external amp (either optical or HDMI return, depending on your setup).
