Hard wire connections are always better than wireless. In fact, depending on some wireless routers, your upload/download speed may double over a wired connection. 
 Internet connections to receivers and TV's can be different. For instance, the receiver may support connecting to pandora or other music services over the internet. You can change the receiver input to one of those, but it's not really a TV type show you watch on TV, it is more about music. It may show some static image on the screen. A smart TV needs it's own connection in order to watch Hulu, amazon prime, etc... it is not going to use the internet connection on the receiver.
