This receiver has 6 analog audio inputs, two optical digital audio inputs and one coax digital input. It depends on where you want the digital to audio conversion to take place. Because the TX-NR555 has such a great digital to analog converter, it is best to use the digital (optical or coax) output of the CD player and connect it with the appropriate cable to your receiver. If your CD player only has analog out (like a 3.5mm stereo output or L/R RCA-style connectors), you can connect the analog signal cable to the analog "CD" input on the receiver. If you are not sure about the cables, take a picture of the back of your CD player and ask an audio sales person to get the right cable for you.
