The subwoofer will connect with a single RG6 (subwoofer) cable. The iPod should be able to be connected via Bluetooth and if that isn't an option you would need a 3.5mm to dual RCA cable plugged into the phono input.

If your ipod does not have Bluetooth, yes you need a miniplug to RCA/phono plug Y-cable or adapter. But you do NOT then plug the stereo phono plugs into the Phono input, which is designed for only input from a record turntable and its cartridge. But there are several other phono plug inputs like "CD" or "Game" that you can use. The on-screen readout won't match what device you're using, but so what.
