“Is the commuter shell a rubberized one like for the s7? I currently have the symmetry for my s 8 and do not like the slippery plastic case.”

The back is hard and slightly slippery on hard surfaces but the corners and button covers are rubbery.

It is two layers. First layer is rubber. Second layer is a hard outer shell with cutouts for the buttons, ports and corners.

Its rubber on the first layer but on the second layer its plastic

No, it is a hard slick cover. It has some rubber around the face.
