This best buy website specifications states it is WATER RESISTANT. That's probably a better description. "Waterproof: fully submergible up to 6.6' for 30 minutes" is what's stated on the WalMart website by one of their third party vendors.

Ana, It is supposed to be waterproof. It is marketed as waterproof. It usually is... But, I believe otterbox has stopped making these. I wonder if it's because the waterproofing part of it failed? Or is it because people didn't want to spend a lot more for this model over the defender? (Originally the price difference was large) What do I know? I'm just passing on what I've noticed in researching this myself. I have not made a purchase yet either.
