• If you don’t want to use it with anything that has to do with the internet you do not have to connect which I did not. I just needed a good player with usb and it is a excellent device

• The unit only needs internet connectivity when it needs an update. It works fine without it. You can connect once and update the system if you want the latest, but it is unlikely that it would update after that anyway.
