• Numbers are maybe 1 cm by .5 cm. Standard size for telephone. I would recommend Panasonic - KX-TGM420W , best buy number 5657471.

• I wouldn't recommend it for him. I bought this phone for my mom and she has to wear her glasses everytime she wants to make a call. Poor display and poor backlight.
