The 900 is an older model that has superior build quality. The upcoming (sometime in August) 820 has the newest picture processing and adds HDR+ (as well as Dolby Vision via a later date firmware update). In my opinion the 820 is a better bet. If you are someone that has a dedicated amp/pre-amp, high end speakers and do critical listening to music then perhaps the 900 (or better yet the upcoming 9000 may better suit you but if HDR+ takes off you would behind with the 900 and the 9000 has not even been announced for a US release yet).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'll paraphrase Kris Deering's review in Sound and Vision ... The 820 adds features to optimize HDR playback which are especially useful for displays with limited brightness. For example, home theater projectors tend to struggle with displaying HDR highlights. In this case, the 820 will have great benefit over the 900. But the 820 should also improve playback of 4K/HDR on the majority of other display types as well. The 820 does have a cheaper remote than the 900. But, in all other respects, I'd recommend going with the 820. You might also consider the upcoming 9000. It has all the features of the 820 (and more) but with superior analog audio output and build quality. It's price, of course, reflects these upgrades.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I asked that question myself. It depends on if they actually did a firmware update for Dolby Vision on it. I couldn't verify it on the internet. I bought the 820 because I know it does Dolby Vision and HDR10+, so it's fairly future proofed, at least until next year, right. It's a great player, and I had a Panasonic player before I bought this one and it's still going strong after 8 years.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There are numerous in-depth reviews that will appear in a Google search. I think you will discover that the newer 820 has the ability to upgrade to newer versions of HDR (DolbyVision; HDR10+ ) and be in every other way similar to the 900 which can't support the newest HDR protocols. IF, and it's a big IF, Panasonic brings the 9000 ultra-premium player to the USA, you will see even better build, better components and more features, but at twice the price. The 820 is the current king of the hill in premium 4k players.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I also own the DP-UB900, besides the Dp-UB820. The UB-900 picture quality and sound are good, but for me the UB-820 has the more advanced HDR and sound features. Make sure you use a good HDMI cable with enough bandwidth when connecting to a 4k TV.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Both have the same PQ via the HCX chip. Both are made good but the 900 is made of better parts and has more bells and whistles.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Dolby Vision. I believe thats it. Not sure if the 900 has HDR Optimizer but as far as I know its Dolby Vision. And from what I understand, Panasonic is not updating the 900 with DV
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The 820 is the newest model and supports Dolby Vision
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I OWN BOTH PLAYERS AND THE 820 IS THE ONE I RECOMEND GETTING.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Th 900 is and older model and was there flagship but no more. The 820 has it all over the 900 now as the technology has progressed. However there is a 9000 coming out that is the new Panasonic flagship at about $1000 cost. Mat not make it to the US. It is better built but not sure of the added features.
