We do not recommend laying the unit on its side.

There are no vents to get plugged by laying flat on the Left side, but it might be wise to elevate the sides - front to back - to help keep the cabinet cool. The DVD is loaded and operates vertically as configured by HP. Most players are loaded and operate horizontally with disc placed downward to ease loading and prevent unusual wear on the mechanism. (While on its Left side it might actually operate better.) And, too, the Product information sticker is then on top where you can find it in case of need.
